Wasted Efforts..
Yea, I feel a bit wasted. Wasted time and nothing to show for it. What happened? Time to rethink this whole job career thing, maybe.
I picked up my second student after my first student ran over his hours getting back to Dallas so he could get home. He quit and I got suspended for 72 hours for not stopping the truck when he went over his hours. I am trying to figure out how to stop a grown man from driving a moving truck that weighs almost 80k pounds while it is in motion... Any ideas? I could call our safety department but all it takes is a "click" to get them off the phone. I could call 911 but it wasn't an emergency. Go figure.
My second student made it 4 weeks before having to go back to Dallas. This was due to the fact I hit 2 deer inside the Indianapolis loop just after midnight. That was easy. The hard part was sitting for 8 days while they repaired the truck at Kenworth and all this while NOT getting paid. Now the truck is fixed but I have to send in all kinds of paperwork showing my last 30 days of income and all expenses occurred during that time. Then wait for 4-6 weeks for a check. No fun there.
Now I get moving and low and behold, I have to go back to Dallas myself for the deer incident and do safety classes. More time with no pay. Think I will just go home and spend the 4th with the family and deal with the classes on the following monday. /shrugs.
Here I sit in Knoxville stuck awake and not able to sleep. Yet I have to be up and moving by 7am. Looks like I will be sleeping in to get my rest and the load will be late, because I will NOT drive unless im fully rested. Safe to you and to myself. It's a load going to Kraft so I know it is a drop and hook. 4 hours late will be okay. I called ahead. When I return on the monday I will be $1300.00 dollars in arrears adn it will take me 3 weeks to get out. So all in all, 6 weeks of nothing to show. I have GOT to get my own truck.
I can make solo what trainers are getting by training. All that and no stress of worrying about a new driver getting in a wreck or doing something careless while you are asleep. I can't be awake every minute of the 5 weeks i am training him. Well, most of the time anyways.
I have got to lay down and try, time to figure out something. Be safe out there, remember, we can't stop these trucks as fast as you can your vehichle. Think ahead!
